50 ships? hmm which engagement... the only thing I know about Tanikaze was dispatched to scuttle Hiryuu since Makigumo didn't do the job right, then later on Hiryuu sunk by herself and at the same time another 37 planes from Enterprise, Hornet and remnants from Yorktown detected her and attacked her, she was hit by several near misses which caused an explosion at her after turret causing 6 dead. After the attack Tanikaze failed to locate Hiryuu. Other than that, she contributed sinking USS Helena CL-50 during the Battle of Kula Gulf on July 6, 1943. which sunk the light cruiser afterwards, Tanikaze also took minor damage in the engagement. She was sunk by USS Harder SS-257 while escorting a convoy on June 9, 1944.
Despite looking like an idiot, she did fought very well during her previous lifetime.
Tanikaze deserves a higher luck stat for her extraordinary stunt at Midway. Although it wasn't a matter of luck; she had an observer on deck watching the bombs drop who calling out instructions to the wheel man.
According to Shattered Sword she shot down one Dauntless dive bomber with AA, and then two B-17s ran out of gas and crashed on the way back.
Near-miss were bombs or torpedoes that missed their targets but detonated nearby the ship that may also inflict damage, while miss is a total miss that did not inflict any damage to the ship.
In Tanikaze's case, shrapnel shells from the bomb which dropped by the aircraft somehow got her after turret which exploded.
Tanikaze, on 1500 hour that day received attack from more than 50 enemy planes but keep on fighting courageously. In that battle, she shot down 4 enemy planes.Even if I look like this, Tanikaze is actually swift. I don't feel like I'm going to get hit at all!
