Post translation: hugging the large fire-haired delinquent who is bad with people was probably a poor choice. I'd probably get a punch to the face and a bite in the arm for trying.
still, wouldn't you be curious what a handful of spider hair feels like? It must be really exotic!
Real-life jumping spiders can be quite adorable. Mostly because they have compact bodies (for jumping) and two giant goo-goo eyes (relative to their body and the other eyes, as they rely extensively on vision).
Gets even cuter when they start ballooning with their silk.
They also come with 3D maneuver gear built in their bodies.
So... a Black Widow, jumping spider, the Brown Recluse (aww hell no! but they do have long legs right?) and a huge tarantula?
Nah, the long legs is most likely a wolf spider. As for Rachnee, there's a common house spider that looks like a black widow just are smaller and don't have the obvious mark. My guess is Rachnee is probably just a house spider. I'm more surprised that they didn't feature an earth spider (the black one with yellow stripes). That one is usually the go to breed you see in Japanese works.

You think the males are all shota-looking due to size-differences in real life? And that's why Rachnee's so aggressive towards men?
If the sergeant long legs, the street punk tarantula, and the leather goth jumping spider are any hints, I'd say spider monsters are a race of alpha-females.

I was kinda expecting/hoping for a 'Jumping Type' with HUGE eyes and a 'Scorpion Type'.
The Scorpion type was put with the insectoids subspecies post #2809668
High-leg breed
A large subspecies with thinner and longer legs than standard arachne. These large arachne are mild-mannered. They cannot produce thread, but they move surprisingly quickly to secure their prey. Their hunting instincts are so powerful that they will sometimes abandon the prey they have captured to pursue new prey. As they are especially uncompromising regarding the extermination of household pests, they are respectfully known among those troubled by such pests as "sergeants."
"Sergeant Ashidaka" is a 2ch slang word used for huntsman spiders (ashidaka-gumo, literally the "High Leg Spider", in Japanese) with respect.
The etymology of this term stems from a 'friendly forces reference chart' posted on the 2ch military board "anti-cockroach thread":
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Granny, General Grandfather, Marshal gecko, Commander Mom, Master Sergeant mantis, Sergeant Ashidaka, Corporal jumping spider (application for promotion to special duty officer was dismissed), Corporal doggy, Corporal Geji (the house centipede), Corporal Daddy, Private Yomenofu (wife), Leading seaman Army paratrooper spider child, were listed along with Army Air Corps lieutenant emerald cockroach wasp, but because this insect does not exist in Japan, its inclusion was treated as a completely part-time honorary position. The relative class rankings of human beings is a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that older Japanese people do not have any fear of cockroaches, and fathers will not actively fight cockroaches even if they come out into full view.
As suggested by its high rank in the list above, the gecko is very adept at preying on cockroaches, but it is said that because the gecko will not hunt when it is not hungry, the 'Sergeant', who even when engrossed in consuming the spoils of its last hunt will immediately swoop onto any new targets that it sees, has superior pest control abilities.Arachne
A non-human species with the lower body of a spider. Arachne have between four and six eyes and are completely carnivorous. They secrete thread from the tip of their abdomen that they use to spin webs and traps. These hunters normally capture their prey in traps, but as hunting is unnecessary in human society, they pass the time by making knitted goods and dolls with their thread. Their hunter instincts compel them to tie people up and play with them. They get drunk off caffeine.Arachne SubspeciesLarge breed
A subspecies far larger than standard arachne with thick legs and a covering of hair. They are very wild and aggressive. In addition to being strong, they also have venom, making them extremely dangerous to approach without caution. However, their venom is not particularly strong or harmful. They are not well-suited to interspecies exchange programs, and when they have interacted with humans, they were arrested for assaulting them and causing other problems.Small breeds
A subspecies smaller than the standard arachne. Their legs are short, but they can move much faster than standard arachne, and they are good at jumping and full of energy. Instead of spinning webs, small arachne wander around on the ground in search of prey. They can produce thread, but they only use it to stop their descent when they fall from high places.
