Being a 20 years Yugioh fan, this made me worried about the future of the series.
VRAINS seems to be quite negatively received so far, with me yet to see anyone praising either Yusaku's design or Link summoning. Little of what we know of it. Or maybe it's exactly the lack of info, including the lack of PVs or announcements of any other characters could be a bad sign.
Of course a new summoning method is going to be added along with the new anime, but if it goes back on the 5D's/ZEXAL route of prominently featuring only its new summoning method while shunning the rest after all ARC-V had done, it's going to be a huge letdown.
But in the reverse since Arc-V already played the "all summoning methods starring together along with past series character" route already, having other summoning methods but NOT having some past series character would also be a letdown from an anime standpoint. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing.
ARC-V's current lukewarm reception of shoehorning an extra arc after the supposed final boss battle also didn't help to build up much hype for VRAINS, as I can see.
This is why I only watched until 5D's series, it's getting more and more complex that's gonna blow your mind
It's not getting "more complex" really. New summoning styles are apple to oranges to the older ones and all animes do indeed explain their usage in simple enough terms for kids to understand.
The newer summoning styles usually don't even render older ones obsolete, actually, since KONAMI still would try to release new cards to balance things out, not to deny the entire series doesn't have a huge power creep going on or anything.
I don't even play the Yugioh game myself anymore, but from what I see Arc-V was so much set up to be the "ultimate peak" of the series in terms of storytelling with all the crossover gimmicks and whatnot that anything that followed is going to have a very hard time to follow up the act.
And as far as I see, VRAINS doesn't seem like it's even going to try.
A translation WOULD be nice, yeah, though I can at least hazard a guess at the gist; all four of them made heavy use of a form of Extra Deck summon, and with VRAINS and the Link Monsters those are getting bottlenecked for the most part -- though, interestingly, each of them (bar maybe Yuya, he kinda relies on Extra Deck summons a ton) has ways to work their deck which would let them work within the new constraints.
