Could this be a fake exit? Scavenger-chan specifically mentioned five nexts. And that doesn't seem at random because at the next art she mentioned four. Which means there should still be 1-2 more art to go through.

It may be when you you consider that the original room didn't have any lights on (and correct me if I'm wrong but from page 70 perspective there is no space for hidden off lights so I can only assume there were none).
Oh, I think I understand why the red painting looks so much like the Hell Area, the journal in tent mentions that the researcher "attempted to reproduce the area by overwriting the picture itself on the wall", and that's exactly what we saw: they tried to reproduce the Hell Area in the painted world! Probably to study it without taking the risk to be eaten alive by the Hell Area's inhabitants.
Also apparently the two remaining friends in the first painting died.

Scavenger might have turned the lights on when she left.
As long as the ligths are on the corridor is perfectly safe. And someone did tape the ligths off. I would say that was malicious but the explanations does make me think of how the Demiurgos comes to be. Someone did make a work of art at the image of God. it didn't turn out well, it was forgoten to root on the void and then gained life and became a false god. Looking at the images it seems like someone did try to recreate both God and Hell. Trapping people on the images might be better than taking the risk.

Someone in the previous post mentioned that that post was updated and the update changes some of the narrative. Notably in the updated version (which I saw but can't find now) the tape was affixed to hold the switch in the on position and the writing was over the tape. This changes the context of the tape, as it would indicate those who put the warning had also taped the switch on for everyone's safety. Someone unfortunately later came and cut the tape and put the switch in the off position, whether there was malicious intent or not is left ambiguous.
