My mom, she's gay and has a wife. Usually I call her wife by her name but sometimes "momma" accidentally slips out and it's emberassing when it happens but she doesn't mind.

Well, that's the point there. She's a descendant of either Kanako or Suwako (and very likely both of them) and technically speaking she only knew them as anything close to parents, so it should be natural for her to call them "mothers". But alas, as a shrine maiden she is not allowed to call them anything other than their name with the polite suffix "-sama" because that would be a sign of disrespect towards a god, and no exceptions are allowed because she's a shrine maiden and thus "should know better". It's almost no wonder why she becomes so... dedicated about hunting youkai, really; family problems do tend to make teenagers into delinquents, after all.

Entirely true. When I was a kid, my father once asked me "a hundred singers sing ten songs, how many song were singed?", and I couldn't understand why "a thousand" was the wrong answer. Now I smoke e-cigs, don't stand for girl in the subway (old ladies and pregnants women are still okay), and wear a shirt saying "I midly dislike the establishment as well as the law enforcement agency".
